Making a stride to help out the homeless, Merrimack Valley CU collected 2,500 plastic shopping bags to be made into sleeping mats for the homeless to get them off the cold concrete. The beds will be made by an organization called Sleeping Mats for the Homeless.
“Each 6 foot by 2 ½ foot mat is made from 600-700 recycled plastic grocery bags and takes up to 50 hours to make! These mats are lightweight, waterproof, and keep people off of the cold concrete, and in part, prevent frostbite by keeping people dry. Aside from helping the homeless community, they help keep plastic bags out of the oceans and landfills!” Snippet found on this LINK.
Guess what this spectacular credit union did?! Financial Resources FCU reached its goal of decorating 1,000 paper bags that will hold meals for homebound seniors who are part of the Meals on Wheels in Hunterdon, Inc.
“The objective of Meals on Wheels in Hunterdon’s nutrition program services is to assist the elderly and disabled of Hunterdon County, NJ avoid unwanted institutionalization by making it possible for them to live at home in comfort, safety, and dignity.” Meals on Wheels in Hunterdon, Inc.
Helping out in any way possible, 33 employees from Capital CU volunteered at Girl Scouts – Dakota Horizons Cookie University by helping assist many tasks during the event. Their focus was to, of course, help out, but the main objective was to also focus on the importance of financial literacy and education. Congratulations to all of the Cookie Graduating Class!
We would say that Freedom FCU had a tremendously successful 2019 by helping over 76 local charities, nonprofits, and community organizations. The best part is that “$180,000 was invested back into the Harford County Communities that the Credit Union serves.” Freedom Credit Union
Listerhill CU launched a new program called Kicks For Kids in Leighton, AL, at Leighton Elementary School!
“Every day, thousands of children around Alabama and Tennessee face poverty, and the result is a lack of appropriate, safe shoes. Research shows that the wrong pair of shoes have measurable detrimental effects on behavior, learning, and confidence. Kicks For Kids exists to raise awareness of this problem and offer real, impactful solutions to those most in need. Taking our philosophy of “people helping people” to a real, tangible extension, this special charity will enable a multitude of kids to run, play, and learn as kids should.” Listerhill Credit Union
Loving their community and all of the schools around, Nebo CU donated a grand total of 2,577 books to elementary school classrooms around the Nebo School District! Absolutely incredible job #CUfamily!
Let’s give SeaComm FCU a huge round of applause for being such an outstanding spark in their community! This credit union recently presented a $50,000 check to help support the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge program in Burlington! Way to go, everyone!
