Humanitarian Highlight 7/30/20: A Helping Hand
Hello everyone, and happy Thursday! It's almost time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the weekend! We hope everyone has been having a great week, and want to welcome you back to another #HumanitarianHighlight! Every week we look at credit unions who have inspired and touched those in their communities. During these tough times, it is important we all help each other out, especially those who have been greatly affected by the pandemic. This week, we wanted to shine the spotlight on all students across the country who have had to deal with so many changes, and particularly to all the 2020 graduates! Even though this may not be how they imagined ending their high school careers, many of these students are moving onward to pursuing their academic dreams! Thank you to all the generous credit unions for supporting all students! If you know of a credit union who has positively impacted their community, tag us and let us know so we can give them a shoutout!
Keeping with the credit union philosophy of “people helping people,” three students were awarded $2,500 scholarships from Advantage One Credit Union to use toward college costs! A huge congratulations to these three graduates, and a big “thank you” to Advantage One! Hard work pays off!
Quest Federal Credit Union presented their 2020 Teacher of the Year Awards to five amazing teachers! What an outstanding accomplishment for these educators who have persevered through these difficult times, considering the unusual end to this year’s school year! Thank you for all that you do, Pam Scarpella, Cody Sigrist, Stacey Fauley, Shannon Peterson, and Lindsay Wyan!
Thirty-one students from Nevada were awarded scholarships of differing amounts to pursue their academic dreams. The winners were selected from communities throughout Nevada, and will attend institutions all over the country. GNCU has been hosting their scholarship for 20 years now, and has helped over 350 students. Congratulations 2020 graduates! Keep aiming high!
Together with The Nevada Interscholastic Actvities Association, One Nevada Credit Union awarded $20,000 in scholarship funds to Nevada student-athletes. Ten of the top student-athletes who excel in not only sports, but also academics and volunteering were chosen and commemorated at a special presentation. Keep up the incredible work!
Financial Jeopordy helped ten lucky high school students receive $11,400 in scholarships, thanks to TruMark Financial Credit Union. Because of the current conditions, TruMark had to rethink their annual Financial Jeopordy competition this year, and took it to Zoom! Amazing job to the students who won!
Chartway Federal Credit Union awarded the Directors’ Memorial Scholarship to seven of their student members, totaling $21,000 in financial assistance. These very deserving student members will be able to go on and pursue their collegiate studies. Just another example of how truly caring credit unions are about their members. Thank you Chartway!
For many San Antonio children, school is the only way they are able to get free meals. With classrooms closing, teachers and faculty had to make sure their students don’t go hungry. Thanks to Firstmark Credit Union, 100,000 meal pickup bags were distributed through curbside pickup for the students! What an incredibly good deed, Firstmark!
