Humanitarian Highlight 9/3/20: Compassionate Credit Unions
Hi everyone, happy Thursday and happy #HumanitarianHighlight day! Each week we love to shine a spotlight on credit unions who have impacted their communities in a positive way. Whether it be donating essential items, taking time to volunteer for others, or inspiring change, we absolutely love to share their stories. Thank you to these awesome credit unions, and don't forget to DM us if there is a special CU you'd like to see featured!
SAFE Credit Union awarded a total of $60,000 in emergency grants to four Sacramento nonprofits to support their efforts in providing emergency services to their clients and community in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), California Credit Union recently honored 17 first-year District teachers through its annual Rookie of the Year program. Congratulations to the lucky teachers!
Earthmover CU recently awarded four Teen Investment Program college scholarships totaling $4,000 to four local high school students. The winners were based on outstanding academics, extracurricular involvement, and an essay about their biggest influence and how their influence affected the way they see the world.
During these hard times, Community Choice Credit Union donated more than $43,000 to pay off its outstanding lunch debts of 4,045 students. Thank you for your generosity, CCCU!
The Acadia Federal Credit Union has pledged $100,000 to Northern Maine Medical Center’s (NMMC) $12.6 million expansion project. We cannot wait to see how the project turns out!
Puyallup's annual Fill the Canoe school drive was a little different this year because of the pandemic, they were forced to push the whole drive online. Instead of donating supplies directly and filling an actual canoe in person, they asked donors to give money online. All donations were matched by the Red Canoe Credit Union, and all the money they raised was used to buy school supplies for students in Puyallup!
For a tenth consecutive year, Ardent Credit Union awarded scholarships to local students headed to college. Four Conestoga High School seniors and two Spring-Ford Area High School seniors among 12 selected, were each awarded $1,000. Congratulations to the students!

"Over the past 23 years, credit unions have raised an incredible $185 million. Credit unions raise funds by engaging their communities, members, and especially employees. This has allowed them to make an immense impact for millions of children every single year. 100% of the donations go directly to the children’s hospital in your community." CU4Kids Miracle Jeans Day
