Humanitarian Highlight 3/7: March Madness
MARCH MADNESS IS FINALLY HERE!! Welcome back to another #HumanitarianHighlight! Huge shout out to all these amazing credit unions who have showed their #CUdifference through many ways in helping their communities.
Being part of a community means you take any efforts in helping out your fellow members. Capitol CU takes great pride in enhancing financial literacy and education within their community. This fantastic CU donated $500 to Megan Schaff, an AVID instructor from Mandan Public School District. What is the AVID program? Well, the AVID program helps boost students’ confidence, help them develop tip-top organizational skills, and help prepare them for college which then includes any postsecondary opportunities that may arise.
Ever wanted to make an impact on someone else’s life? Columbia CU is supporting the Northwest Association for Blind Athletes which have their 2019 Imagine Dinner and Auction on February 23. With 70% of children with visual impairments, they have never felt the freedom of being able to ride a bike and perform tasks on their own.
“NWABA’s programs and services serve individuals of all ages and abilities with visual impairments. Our programs offer opportunities from teaching children to swim for the first time to providing competitive team-based sports for veterans with visual impairments. Opportunities are available to everyone with a visual impairment regardless of age or ability level.” Northwest Association for Blind Athletes

Helped raise a record-setting amount of $787,360.68 in 2018 to help end hunger in Maine.
Being the kind of generous credit union they are, Connexus CU employees helped make 300 blankets to donate to the babies at the Aspirus Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
As wonderful as this CU is, their employees are also so generous and caring. On Friday, their employees have the option to wear jeans in exchange for a donation to a local nonprofit organization. More than $2,000 of funds were collected this year and were given to the staff of Family Lives On Foundation. The foundation is a nonprofit that supports the well-being of children whose mom or dad have passed away. They provide many opportunities in creating a safe haven for ‘grief, communication, and celebration’.
“We became aware of Family Lives On Foundation during the employee voting process to determine which nonprofit will be our annual jeans donation recipient. We were so touched by the organization’s efforts that we decided to sponsor the Tot Trot during their upcoming 5k race fundraiser as well as their Traditions Ball,” says Daniel J. Machon, Jr., President, and CEO of Benchmark Federal Credit Union. “As the only federal credit union to exclusively serve Chester County, we are committed to partnering with organizations that ensure the well-being of our community.” Kristen Stewart
Donated an amazing amount of $16,000 to Two Rivers Youth Sports. With the donated money, it will go towards the construction of a new concession stand, press box, and a dugout building at Roncalli High School.
Who loves bowling and supporting a cause? Sperry Associates FCU do!! The CU participated in the Maurer Foundation’s annual Pink Bowl event. The event is very special because it supports breast cancer education and preventative efforts women must be aware of. With an astounding amount of $13,000 donated to the cause, Sperry Associated FCU have shown that they want to make a difference within their community and truly care about the well-being of others.
