As the summer starts to wind down and we get later into the year, we can start to look back and get a grip on how things might be going. Credit union leaders want to know if they’ve taken steps in the right direction and if they’ve taken on their roles to the best of their ability. Obviously, there are ways to gauge performance and growth, but what about looking ahead towards getting better for the future? Luckily there are plenty of resources for this, and this past week showed to be one of them. The credit union world’s biggest annual event wrapped up in Las Vegas and left attendees both entertained, inspired, and full of information. The 40th annual Directors & CEOs Leadership Convention transpired over the course of four days at Caesar’s Palace and featured everything from practical industry knowledge to an exclusive private showing of Cirque du Soleil. It seemed that the curators of the event wanted to leave a lasting impression on guests judging by the theme, “Big. Bold. Inspiring.”
Some of the credit union industry’s hottest topics were at the forefront of conversation in four all-new workshops, which took place on day one. Guests were left with loads of information about strategic planning, cyber-security, financial planning, and growth innovation.
Networking opportunities were in abundance ranging from meet and greets with fellow industry leaders, dessert socials, a painting activity, and of course, an amazing private showing of Cirque Du Soleil.
A major feature of the convention was the number of noteworthy keynote speakers who dropped knowledge about leadership from their experiences in running some of the nation’s top credit unions. Although these speakers gave great insight into the world of credit union leadership and other topics, none could really top Dan Rather, former CBS associate of over 50 years. Having had so much experience in dealing with powerful world leaders, Rather delivered compelling messages and lessons in a way that only he could have, and left convention-goers inspired.
Many of our peers int the industry attended and we have heard good things about it. We plan on attending next year and plan on participating in such as inspirational event.
